orfolk is well-known for both its stories of ghosts and of smugglers. The beach at Weybourne in particle was a popular place in the 17th and 18th centuries for boats to drop off smuggled goods. A local legend states that the village of Weybourne is haunted by the spirit of a former smuggler named John Smythe.
In the 18th century, there was a young girl named “Nancy”. Her job was to trawl Blacknock Mud bank for the famous blue cockles (Stewkey Blues) Stiffkey was well known for. An exhausting and dangerous job, carried out by many of the women who lived in the village.
